Tweening is the process of generating intermediate frames between two images to give the appearance that the first image evolves smoothly into the second image. It is about creating frames between keyframes. A tween can be defined as an interpolation from one position to another.
In Sony Vegas, objects (solids, images, video clips, text titles etc.) can be animated or morphed between one state and the next over a period of time. You simply specify the start and end keyframes and Vegas dynamically generates the frames in-between to make a transition between states. Sometimes, you have to create multiple keyframes, if you want to generate a reasonably-smooth animation.
Tweener allows you to create very smooth animations using Track Motion and Pan/Crop properties. It allows you to easily animate pictures, videos, logos, and text without heavy editing. In brief, it generates new keyframes between existing keyframes. It gives you more ways to interpolate between values.
Tweener also applies easing to animation to create more pleasing transitions and effects. Easing defines the curve type between keyframes. Most of the interpolations have varying degrees of acceleration and deceleration (such as Cubic, Exponential, Circular). There are also special types: Bounce, Elastic, and Back. Each interpolation have 4 subtypes - In, Out, In/Out, Reverse In/Out. Thus, you can choose from 49 different combinations.
Tweener can also adjust a motion path's curve between multiple keyframes. You can use it to animate something along a path, with constant speed regardless of waypoints distance.
Take a look at the templates Flip, Elegant Slideshow etc. Animation was created with Tweener. In our free template Moving Slides you can see how we used Tweener to change transition progress between images.

Let’s talk a little bit about how best to use text. As we said above, text is getting to be more and more commonplace in the modern age of video. But it’s still possible to overdo it! The biggest rule of thumb for making is video is “show, don’t tell.” Most often, you should use images to tell your story and get your points across, not text. After all, you’re making a video, not writing a book. Use text to enhance your visuals, to add a bit of information or narration, or to mark chapters in your story. Avoid walls of words. Don’t make your audience read your video.
The best text is the least text needed for the job.
You also want to avoid crazy colors and wild animations. These might be right for a few kinds of videos, like extreme sports or wacky comedy, but for the most part, subtlety is more effective and more professional. Most of the time, a crisp, non-serif white font will do the job best. Also, the modern trend with text animation is that less is more. Don’t tire out your audience with lots of movement. The new preset animations in VEGAS Pro are designed with all this in mind. They utilize plain white text, and their animation, though eye-catching, is subtle and professional. You can always change the presets if you want, but they start out subtle and crisp.
thembats/VegasLipSyncApp
A MAGIX Vegas Pro extension for simple lip sync animation
About
The LipSync extension for Vegas Pro allows you to quickly and easily animate character facial animations that sync up to your audio files. It's similar to animation methods used in Adobe After Effects with the added benefit of being contained in the powerful, non-linear editing software Vegas Pro.
Setup
Download the www.buddysplantplus.com from the latest release and place it in folder. If the folder doesn't exist, create it.
To use the extension, start Vegas and in the toolbar navigate to .
Usage
Start by adding your images to the image boxes by clicking the buttons and navigating to your images.
After selecting your images, right click the main Vegas timeline and insert a video track. Click the button underneath your desired image to add it to the video track. The image will be added to the track at the point where the timeline cursor is at.
Note: The LipSyncApp automatically puts images to whichever track the "Add to Track" textbox is set to.
Note: If you try to add an image without first inserting a video track, you will receive an error.
A faster way to add images to the video track is to hold the key and scroll up or down over the LipSyncApp window. This will cycle through the images you've added to the app and once you release the image will be placed on the track.
- Note: Due to the way Vegas implemented extension scripting and Windows Forms, you must hover over the LipSyncApp and scroll to change mouth frames.
To aid in your animating, add an audio file you would like to animate over to an audio track. Hold and scrub through the audio track using the timeline cursor. This will allow you to hear your audio and decide what image to add.
If you want to make changes to previously added images, drag the timeline cursor to wherever you want to add a new image and add it. The LipSyncApp automatically removes part of the previous image and inserts the newly selected one.
You can also add the body of your character to a track beneath your mouth animation track and position all of the images in the mouth track over your character. To do this, click the hamburger button to the left of the track timeline on the first track and click . Here you can change where your mouths show up and position them over your character.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to animate using keyframes (start/end "frames" in a smooth animation). Like my last tutorial, I'll be using Sony Vegas Pro 10 for this.
Things To Note
- The keyframe method is really only good for basic scale/transformation/rotation animation.
- If you want to add rotation to your animation, do it all on the last keyframe.
- Multiple rotations of the same image are "recorded" between the start keyframe and the end keyframe.
- If you navigate to a frame that doesn't have a keyframe indicator on it, one will automatically be created if you adjust the image.
Tutorial
1. In Sony Vegas, load your .veg file (or start a new one if you do not have one).
2. Place and align your files. Make sure the thing you want to animate is in the correct track! (In this instance, the first track has the file we're going to add the keyframes to.)
3. Click this icon. A dialogue will pop up.
4. Navigate to the END of your animation (it doesn't have to be the length of the entire clip) and set a keyframe there.
5. Adjust this keyframe so that the image looks like what it should look like at the end of your animation.
6. Go to the keyframe that starts your animation. Set it to look as it should at the start.
7. Once that's done, press play and watch the animation!
Keyframes contain states of how you want things to be, whether it’s a zoom amount, a specific color, or any of hundreds of possible parameters and thousands of possible combinations of parameters. At its most basic, the first keyframe defines your initial state. Then, some point later in the timeline, you define another state and set a keyframe for that. As the project plays in between the keyframes, VEGAS calculates steps in between the two states. It then interpolates intermediate frames between the keyframes and creates a natural flow between one state to the next.
A state is a combination of parameters. In a simple example, a state may be simply the size and position of an image. The next state may only be a different position, but the same size. As the timeline progresses from one keyframe to the next, VEGAS interpolates the positions between the keyframes, and the image moves between the first position and the second position.
States can be very complex and involve many parameters, like size, shape, color, rotation, brightness, and many more, any of which can change between keyframes. With so many independent parameters under your control, you can create amazingly sophisticated animations and effects with keyframing.

If you want to adjust spatial interpolation—how motion occurs within a video image—change the Smoothness setting in the Event Pan/Crop or Track Motion dialog. A Smoothness setting of 0 produces linear motion from one keyframe to the next. Increasing the setting produces a curved path.
