Frequently asked questions
You can use the plan as long as you are working at a qualified school. Your eligibility may be re-verified at any time. When your Office Education plan expires:
- The Office applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means that you can view documents, but you cannot edit or create new documents.
- Online services associated with the school email address—for example, Office Online and OneDrive—will no longer work.
- If your plan expires, you can extend your plan by re-verifying your status as an educator, or by moving to an Office personal plan.
In many cases, the response time is instantaneous through an automated verification process. In other cases where an institution needs to be verified, it may take up to a month to confirm eligibility. If you are nearing the end of your day trial and have not received approval of eligibility, please contact customer support.
The OneDrive account is assigned to you but associated with the school and should be used for school-appropriate content. Permissions and access can be changed by the school’s IT administrator at any time.
Office Education is individually licensed for use only by the eligible teacher. If you have colleagues who want to use Office Education, they can get their own license on the Office Education webpage.
- Have a school-specific email address provided by the school (for example, www.buddysplantplus.com) that can receive external email.
- Be of legal age to sign up for an online offer individually.

Students, faculty and staff can download and access Microsoft O software through the Microsoft O portal through the link below. Log in using your Crimson email address or myBamausername@www.buddysplantplus.com email address and myBama password. Once logged in, click Install Office. After the apps are installed, you may be prompted to log into the apps using your Crimson email address or myBamausername@www.buddysplantplus.com email address. Additional installation instructions are available. To install Office apps on your mobile devices, visit your device&#;s app store.

When can new students begin using Office Education?
New students can begin using Office Education two weeks before their first class begins.
Where can I get help installing Office Education?
For installation instructions and troubleshooting information for Office , visit Microsoft &#;s website. If you need additional assistance, contact the IT Service Desk.
Can I use the software offline?
Yes. However, you must connect the device to the Internet at least once every 30 days to verify the license.
I already have an Office subscription, can I be reimbursed?
No. Microsoft does not have a process by which to convert, reimburse, or migrate licensing. Office Education, including Office ProPlus software, is only available through the University’s existing agreement with Microsoft.
What happens when I graduate or leave UA?
Once you are no longer enrolled in classes or when you terminate employment at UA, your subscription to Office Education will end and your account will be deactivated. You should locally save your content stored on OneDrive before you leave the University as you will lose access to the data once the subscription is terminated. Graduating students can take advantage of Microsoft&#;s offer to recent grads.
How do I reset my password for O?
Your Office Education and myBama accounts are linked. To reset your Office Education password, you must reset your myBama password.
Can I install and use Office Education applications and services on my University-owned machines?
Yes. University-owned machines are also covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement.
Can I install and use Office Education applications and services on my personal machine?
Yes. However, if you are a faculty or staff member who accesses sensitive or restricted information for your job role at UA, you should only use University-owned equipment to perform your job duties.
Eligibility and Cost
Office is provided free of charge to currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. When departing the University, staff will lose access to Office one day after departure, faculty will lose access six months after departure, and students will lose access one semester after departure.

Software obtained through the Office Education plan has the same features and functions as other versions of Office and can be used offline; however, users must connect to the Internet once every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the program. Upon graduation, separation, retirement or otherwise exiting the University, subscriptions will end. Office Education is provided as a benefit of the University&#;s Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Microsoft Office for Education
The City University of New York is providing Microsoft Office for Education to all active faculty and staff via the Microsoft Office in Education program. The license remains active until you leave the University, at which point it will be in read-only mode and you will be prompted to pay a license fee to Microsoft or stop using Microsoft Office for Education.
The Microsoft Office for Education suite includes OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, Yammer, and Skype for Business, as well as widely used Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the downloadable Office ProPlus suite. It also includes 1 TB of storage per user.
To access Microsoft Office for Education, please log in via the CUNY Web Applications Login page. For more information, see the Video Tutorials and the FAQ page.

To create a new Office Education account
- Visit www.buddysplantplus.com
- Click through to sign up with your Oakland University email address.
- You should receive an email from the Office team. Click the “Finish signing up for Office Education” link provided in the email.
- Complete the registration information.
- At the Office home screen you can choose “Install Now” to download the Office Productivity Suite on your device, or select the desired icon to use an Office Online service in your web browser.
Please note, this process will create an Office Education account that is tied to your OU email identity. The password for this account is separate from your NetID password.
If you have an existing Office Education account
- Visit www.buddysplantplus.com
- Enter your OU address and Office password
Restrictions and Termination
Your Office Education account will be terminated the same time as your NetID. The account termination guidelines for the NetID accounts is here. At the time of account deletion, all data and information stored in the cloud service will no longer be accessible or recoverable.
Faculty and staff are reminded to review Policy # Information Security before storing data in cloud services, including any Office Education product. Office Education may be used only for materials and information that are not Confidential, and not covered by HIPAA, FERPA, PHI or other similar regulations. Office should be considered a personal service not suitable for official university or departmental business. Prior to use, please review the posted Security Information.
Any agreement that is presented by an Office service is an agreement between you and a hosted solution. As such, this service is provided as is and is outside the control of Oakland University or University Technology Services.

Step 1 - Register Your Email
Step 2 - Select Your Affiliation
Next: You will be asked "Are you a student or a teacher?"
Select "I'm a student".
Once you have selected "I'm a student", a message will inform you to check your student email for a link to complete the Office registration process.
Step 3 - Check Your Email for the Registration Link
Step 4 - Create a Password for Your Office Account
After clicking the "Yes, that's me" button found in your email, you will be taking to a registration form.
Fill in your first and last name.
Create your Office account password.
Enter your date of birth.
Then, click the "Start" link at the bottom of the registration form.
The Office registration process is now complete.
